Rebirth/Living Room: Residential Life as Transformative Sacred Space (Vassar College)

During this day-long training for the entire residential life staff and student leader population at Vassar College, Sista Docta Alexis Pauline Gumbs will facilitate and instigate participatory ceremonies that transform the meaning of residential life on campus.   Inspired by June Jordan’s revolutionary anti-imperialist idea of “living room” and “love as lifeforce” the students will use poetry, movement and creative group strategy sessions to envision residential life on their campus as a space for accountability, transformation and rebirth.
