“I love the word survival, it always sounds to me like a promise. It makes me wonder sometimes though, how do I define the shape of my impact upon this earth?”
– Audre Lorde reflection cut from an early draft of “Eye to Eye: Black Women, Hatred and Anger”
(Audre Lorde Papers, Spelman College Archive)
Happy New Year to all my community accountable, radical, brilliant, bodacious and rebellious intellectuals!!! This one night webinar is designed as an accessible check in and pep talk and devotional service for those of us who are being creative, brave and multiple about our intellectual work. It will also be grounded in APGs research on the intellectual labor of Audre Lorde, June Jordan and more.
If you have exciting community accountable projects you are launching this year, if you are feeling weary about what it costs to navigate the institutions you are working through, if you want to be among other like-minded soul rebels, if you savor any opportunity to learn more about how Audre Lorde, June Jordan and other black feminists navigated and navigate their intellectual and creative lives…then join the conversation!
Our conversation will be inspired by an essay by Alexis Pauline Gumbs called The Shape of My Impact (or Sounds to Me Like a Promise/ On Survival) http://www.thefeministwire.com/2012/10/the-shape-of-my-impact/ Feel free to read it beforehand…or not!
