Panel 2: Art as Administration, 10:45-11:45am at Elsewhere
606 South Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27406
This panel introduces a series of case studies in which artists embed their work into places and systems outside of traditional art structures as a strategy to achieve specific sociopolitical goals and to connect with new audiences. It will address the unique challenges and opportunities for making this kind of work regionally and begin to situate this work within the broader political climate that impacts its production and reception.
Overview
This year’s convergence will be a day long makers summit for artists, curators, gallerists, thinkers, friends, discussing critical issues affecting artist-run spaces and initiatives in North Carolina and our opportunities for developing networks and resources for mutual support. It is the capstone event for Elsewhere’s Southern Constellations Curatorial Initiative, which seeks to expand and support the creation of experimental art in the South.
Through panel discussions, curated peer driven conversation, and opportunities for cross regional exchange we will come together to better understand the unique art ecology of our region and to assess our positions within a tangle of local, regional, and global concerns. We will explore ways to activate our regional infrastructure and empower new local centers of artistic activity that exist in complex alliances with the art market system.
The convergence is being produced in partnership with the Weatherspoon Art Museum and the Center for Visual Arts.
Registration is free and limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Click on the registration tab and complete the form to reserve your spot.
